Win a prize by becoming a fan of TwitterLeague on Facebook!

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

You can now become a fan of TwitterLeague by going to the Facebook page I have set up. I will probably be running a competition to get an initial set of fans. How about an advert for a month on TwitterLeague.com for a lucky person who signs up!

That’s right. When there are 100 fans of the TwitterLeague page I will pick a person at random and they will have a link on the front page of TwitterLeague to their blog/website or site of their choosing. So why not sign up and let your friends know about TwitterLeague. What have you got to lose?

Check out the Facebook page, become a fan and enjoy!

Traffic boost causing Twitter API problems

Monday, September 1st, 2008

This morning Mike Butcher wrote a great review of TwitterLeague on TechCrunch UK. Just 10 minutes after the article had gone live 20 people signed up. About 8 hours later the site experienced some problems when processing logins. This problem is caused by the Twitter API limit.

This is because whenever you login the site the application goes to Twitter and basically asks “are the username and password correct?”. The site the gets a response from the Twitter API of “true” or “false”. But when the API limit is reached there is no longer a true or false returned, jsut a line of text saying “The API limit has been reached” which means users cannot be authenticated and logged in.

I have applied for TwitterLeague to be whitelisted and so until then there will be login problems. :(

I really am as frustrated as you. I didn’t expect to reach the limit. It is just a painful wait until Twitter approve the app for whitelisting.

Thanks for hanging in there!

Making Fast Progress

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

So I haven’t written a blog post in a few days as I have been programming and designing a lot. The main user interface is about 80% complete and the background processing is about there too. So in the last few days I have made some really fast progress.

I will be releasing some beta invite codes when the site in ready. I will be giving them out all over the place. But the best bet to getting an invite code is to follow me on Twitter at twitter.com/ollieparsley.

Thanks

In the beginning…

Monday, August 25th, 2008

So I have written the first introductory post and now I am going to reveal a few more details about the site.

The site came about when I was rebuilding a web technology blog I run called TechJuicer. There are now a few more writers at TechJuicer, so I had the idea where I wanted to see a league of out Twitter followers. Each writer would appear in a table with their photo, their name and their Twitter follower count, this would be in the form of a league table. I then thought that there isn’t actually a website that has a tool to do this. I saw the opportunity to allow a large number of websites/companies/groups to create their own leagues and put it anywhere on their site.

So that is what TwitterLeague is. To put it simply. You sign in with your existing Twitter username, create a league, add twitter usernames to the league and then place some code onto your site.

That’s all there is to it. If you want to find out more information please e-mail info[at]twitterleague[dot]com

Thank you
